United Kingdom Engineering Projects - Rubb Fabric Buildings, Aircraft Hangars, Sports Buildings, Military Buildings
Twynings Royal Quays, North Shields, UK
Rubb Buildings has recently completed the construction of a brand new warehouse facility for Twynings the global tea traders. The project was awarded following a successful tender bid, with Twynings employing the services of a consultant to help prepare the build specifications and organize the tender.
The warehouse is situated at Royal Quays, North Shields and was required to provide extra storage capacity to handle the increased production and change in products to be produced at the North of England facility. The unit is used to store a variety of packaging materials, including cartons, foil envelopes and paper.
The BVE type building is 52.5 meters (172.2’) in length with a span of 24 meters (78.7’) and 6 meter (19.7’) high sidewalls. Vehicle access to the facility is via the 7.5 meters (24.6’) x 5 meters (16.4’) high loading bay extension with high roller shutter doors.
SITA UK Scunthorpe
Not only can a Rubb building be constructed quickly, but it can just as easily be dismantled, stored, and erected elsewhere, so providing total flexibility for all sorts of storage requirements.
In 1997 Rubb erected one of their standard BVE buildings, 30m (98.4') x 30m (98.4') with 6m (19.7') high sidewalls, as a temporary waste transfer station at North Shields, on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne. Once construction of the permanent waste facility had been completed the Rubb BVE building was taken down and stored for future use. This was easily achieved as the components of the building, stretched flame retardant PVC covered polyester over a hot dip galvanized steel frame, were easy to dismantle and economical to store in a corner of the North Shields site.
In 2004 temporary use of the building was needed again, but this time at Normanby Park, Scunthorpe, where it was transported to and re-erected in a couple of weeks.
As Danny Coyne, Senior Waste Disposal Engineer for SITA UK commented "We had stored the Rubb building for several years in case we needed it for future use. When planning was granted for a Waste Transfer Site at Scunthorpe we were only given approval for 7 years, so it would not have been economically viable to erect a traditionally constructed building. Our Rubb relocatable building provided the perfect solution to our problem".
The translucent roof of the Rubb building provides an airy working environment, and it is completed as a waste facility with the construction of a 3 m (10') high retaining/push wall inside. Side walls are covered with weld mesh and debris net to aid in the collection of waste.
As Danny Coyne continued "Considering the BVE was stored in the open for 7 years maintenance was minimal in re-erecting it again at Scunthorpe. No doubt we will be able to use it again in similar fashion in the future".
Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club Derbyshire
Rubb Buildings have just completed a brand new indoor tennis centre for Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club. Based in one of Rubb's BVE buildings the new center, which includes three full size courts, is 50m (164') in length with a 38m (124.6') span and 5.25m (17.2') sidewalls.
The club has been looking for a covered center for some time; with a specification formulated by a consultant appointed by the Lawn Tennis Association a tender document was prepared and subsequently Rubb were awarded the contract.
In addition to meeting the LTA specification for ventilation and lighting, and providing all services, the centre has been constructed with steel clad sidewalls, special fire walls and curtain walling. Periphery curtains and dividing nets separate the individual courts.
A feature of particular interest is a partially-glazed gable end wall, however the real versatility of the Rubb structure is that it has been constructed as an extension to the existing Clubhouse which itself has been renovated.
As Paul Hatton, Head Coach of Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club commented "Rubb Buildings have been an excellent company to work with. They have provided Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club with a state of the art indoor sports facility; we are all highly delighted with the arena. The three new indoor courts allow the club to open and function all year round whatever the weather."
Military School of Aviation
The facility, a BVR 18m (59.04') x 35m (114.8') x with side walls of 6m (19.7') was designed and built for a variety of sports, from combat fitness tests, indoor assault courses and circuit training as the addition of interior walls with Gerflor Sport M sports flooring has provided the perfect sports hall for 5 aside football, indoor hockey and mini tennis with addition of indoor nets cricket is available all year round.
